Dudley Do-Right

I had a chance to see Dudley Do-Right this past weekend. It wouldn't be fair to immediately compare the film to George of the Jungle but you can't help it. Dudley is made in the same vein and spirit as George but it's not as good as its predecessor. George pretty much caught me off guard, I was not expect much and ended up enjoying the hell out of it. With Dudley, you know what to expect and it ends up being hit or miss. Everything you'd expect is here, from the narrator to the outlandish comic situations. However, because we've seen it before it just doesn't work as well. Fraser is missing that innocent charm that made him so endearing in George. Sarah Jessica Parker looks as though she's nothing more than window dressing. Alfred Molina is great as Snidley Whiplash. He's probably the best thing in it. Anyway, if you liked George you'll probably like Dudley. If you never seen George, remember this is a fully realized live action version of a cartoon. Wait now that I think of it, it was a whole lot better than Inspector Gadget. Anyway, I thought it was just OK. I would wait for video if it weren't for the movie being scope.
