A surprisingly entertaining live-action film based on the animated late-'60s TV show that ran only 17 episodes. Brendan Fraser is perfectly cast as the good-looking, buffed doofus who swings from vine into tree trunk after tree trunk in the jungle. Cute bits include his gorilla manservant and, especially, his pet dog that has tusks and looks remarkable like an elephant -- because it is one. The story has George romancing a high-society heiress away from her loathsome fiance, but what sets the film apart is a script that has the good sense to laugh at itself. PG. (3 out of 4 stars)
